But you’ll need an adapter to use it with your Tesla.
Tesla just launched a new Wall Connector charging station that costs around $150 more than its previous model, and that’s because it works with other electric vehicles. Yes, the all-new Tesla J1772 Wall Connector is $550 and will charge your Tesla or another EV.
For those unaware, in North America, Tesla has a proprietary connector for its vehicles, rather than a standard plug like other manufacturers, making things difficult for multi-car owners. As a result, those with Tesla’s older home charger couldn’t charge an EV from different brands, but now you can with this new model.
Remember that this is a Tesla-branded CCS/J1772 standard plug, so if you want to use it with your Tesla, you’ll need to use the adapter that came with your vehicle.
According to Tesla, this new EV charger is ideal for houses and offers up to 44 miles of range after just one hour on the charger. However, Tesla is also aiming it at apartments, hospitality properties, and workplaces thanks to the 24-foot charging cable, multiple different power settings the owner can control in the app, and it works indoors or outdoors.
One thing to note is this also does power-sharing, meaning users can charge two vehicles simultaneously, which is a pretty big deal at this price point. Overall, being just $550 makes this extremely competitive and well-priced compared to others on the market.
It looks like Tesla isn’t just trying to sell this to multi-vehicle households but also commercial customers. The site mentions that commercial real estate customers looking to buy more than 12 can do so through Tesla’s commercial charging arm.
In recent months Tesla has made many changes to embrace the EV space overall. In select regions like Europe, other EV owners can use Tesla’s Supercharging network, and we’re waiting for it to roll out in North America. Additionally, the company recently released an adapter that lets Tesla owners charge their vehicles from off-brand EV stations.
If you want to charge a Tesla and other EVs with the same charger, consider the new Tesla J1772 Wall Connector.
